FUND 33:
Fund 33: What is it?
In 2023, a Borderland advice process established Fund 33, a grant program that earmarks 33% of dream (art) grants (~>1 million Swedish KR!) for ambitious, large-scale and/or permanent-ish art projects for the Borderland.
We know from experience that large-scale projects need a different size of funding and timeline to be achievable. Projects like Protea and the Temple of Tokamak weren’t built in a day, and neither will the grand, future art pieces of the Borderland.
Now that The Borderland has found a stable home we believe the time has come to dream differently. We want to create art that can stay with us longer and expands more fully into the space that the Alversjö playground makes available. Let us now explore how the immediacy of The Borderland can be expressed over time, and how we can integrate our art more holistically, playfully, into the local ecosystem together!
We dream of semi-permanent evolving projects, strange sculptures that are added to every year, temples that grow with the help of both plants and human hands, ingenious explorations of the thresholds between the nature reserve and the burner reserve, and so on. These are only vague outlines and shadows in the dream realm; we need you to bring them into focus and make their edges sharper, so that the co-creative sparks start flying between us all!
There’s a lot of money in the pot, so start dreaming!

RULES
What we fund
Building materials. Wood, metal, screws, electronics, etc.
Project transportation costs. Fuel, highway tolls, ferry crossings or shipping costs (this does not include flights/personal travel/etc.)
3rd party professional services (in some special cases.) We prefer that as much building as possible is done by community members. In cases when you can't find the equipment or skill necessary for building a certain part, it may be OK to pay someone to do it instead. Ask us before contracting any services!
What We Don't Fund
Products with high resale / reuse value: Tents, sound systems, solar panels, etc. These items are allowed if they are an inseparable part of the installation and hence lose their resale value.
Travel/Lodging/Food/Remuneration: As in the normal Dream Grant process, we do not cover artist room/board/travel or fees/salaries, these grants are aimed at art materials.
Borderland Membership: You should participate in the membership lottery on the same terms as other members.
Projects that are not directly relevant to the Borderland (though we fully support projects that are win-wins for both the Borderland and Borderland.Land!)
Dream Application. Fund 33 uses the same cobudget (dreams) platform as the rest of the Borderland.
Detailed budget. While you should submit your budget on the dreams platform, you are strongly encouraged to supplement your application with a detailed spreadsheet. Vague line items such as: “Lumber, 50 000SEK” will not be approved. See an example of a detailed budget breakdown here)
Build & Strike plan. You need to submit a build and strike plan, that details how your project is installed at the site and by whom, and how it is removed from the site.
Permanent-ish artworks need a coordinate with Alversjö. Certain artworks might be allowed to stay at the site. Details such as project ownership, how many years the structure is rated for, who will remove it after the designated period of time etc. will need to be agreed upon separately with Alversjö.
Safety assessment. You are required to submit a third party engineer-certifed safety assessment and relevant information for obtaining building permits before constructing the project.
Leave no trace plan. You’re expected to dispose of any leftover materials at the appropriate recycling facilities on site or ask for space in a skip for nonrecyclable materials.
Some examples of previous work you’ve done. Especially if you’re applying for the really big bucks, we want to make sure you can pull it off!
